17-Year-Old Gets 3 Months Jail Term

A 17-year-old boy was yesterday handed a 3-month mandatory jail term by a magistrate court in Brikama, Western Region.

The 17-year-old boy (name withheld), a native of Dasilameh in Kombo Central pleaded guilty to a charge of being in possession of arm and ammunition without any lawful authority.

According to the particulars of offence, on or about 4th October 2009, at Dasilameh Village, the accused was found in possession of a locally made pistol without any lawful authority.

In narrating the facts, Prosecutor Cadet ASP Samateh, told the court that the accused was arrested when one drug enforcement officer went to drink from his house where he saw the pistol.

He told the court that the officer subsequently reported the matter to his colleagues, and thus the accused was arrested.
