18 Graduate from Institute of Travel and Tourism

Institute of Travel and Tourism recently celebrated the graduation of 18 proud students who have successfully completed an Advanced Diploma in Tourism and Travel Level 3. The graduation ceremony, which was held at the Paradise Suites Hotel, was attended by senior government officials from the Department of Tourism and Culture.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, The principal of the institute of travel and tourism, Mr. Sheikh Tejan Nyang, said these 18 proud graduates have undergone an intensive ten-month course in travel and tourism level three, advanced diploma. He disclosed that among the graduating students are two chefs, two receptionists, one storekeeper and the rest are mainly fresh graduates from high school with various backgrounds.

Mr. Nyang disclosed that, over the years, the tourism sector has contributed significantly to our economy, both in terms of income and employment generation among other benefits. “As a result, we strongly believe that staying ahead of competition, ensuring supply of quality human resources remained as a key to success,” he said.

According to him, the course structure is based on the South Nottingham College curriculum which is recognised internationally. This has been coupled with the adoption of The Gambia Skills Qualification Framework as prescribed by the National Training Authority. “We have also worked closely with stakeholders in the industry in giving our students job placement opportunities in the areas they wish to work in after their graduation,” Mr. Nyang said.
