Dr. Alieu Gaye, President of the Gambia Diabetes Association (GDA) has been elected the Chairperson for the International Diabetes Federation, Africa Region for the Triennium January, 2007 - December 2009.

According to a press release issued by the IDF Africa Region, Dr Gaye’s election took place at a recently concluded IDF African Regional Council meeting held in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania from 28-30th September, 2006. “He has our heartiest felicitation and best wishes for a successful tenure in office, crowned with Allah’s richest blessings and guidance,” the release stated.

Prior to his recent election as chair IDF Africa region, the release added, Dr. Alieu Gaye was the Vice- chair, IDF Africa region, a position he held since January 2006. Dr Gaye has been the President of the Gambia Diabetics Association since 1992.
