Everybody is doing it, so I figured why not give this on-line dating a try. It seemed better than shopping at Costco and Sams Club, bulk dating.
After a bad marriage it was a great way to meet people. Sure there were some scary characters, people loaded up with problems or those that showed up looking nothing like their photo. I dated a few women who must have been in the witness protection program and were using their on-line picture as a disguise to throw people off.
On one date I showed up and the woman was a good 50 pounds heavier than her profile. This isn’t fat bashing, but if you check petite on your profile description that’s a bit misleading.
Another had an on-line shot of herself with long flowing hair. She showed up on the date with hair in a bun so tight it had to hurt. Not that there’s anything wrong with tight buns, but it wouldn’t be a hairdo I would pick.
One lady checked on her profile “non-smoker”. There should be a category for on-line dating forms that has two options: non-smoker when sober, heavy smoker after a drink or two.
But it wasn’t a total waste of time, because I ended up meeting the woman I’m going to spend the rest of my life with. When I came across her photo and profile there was something about it that said to me “I need to contact this woman”. The first few times I tried contacting her she ignored me, maybe it was the photo of me in my prison fatigues, or the fact I had kids from a previous marriage, or that we lived in different cities. Nobody ever called me a quitter so I kept at it, and one day I slipped through the firewall and we ended up talking on-line, and the rest as someone once said is history.
There are a couple of lessons to be learned here. One, on-line dating is a great way to meet people. Two, well maybe there’s just one lesson to be learned. At any rate, I ended up meeting someone I would probably never have run in to at the supermarket or a bar, and I’m very happy. In fact we are expecting a child in December.
On-line dating had its ups and downs, but in the end worked out great...
