Following their 2-1 victory over Mali last Saturday in the return leg of the CAF U-20 qualifiers, the Gambia National U-20 team joined others seven countries for the draw on Sunday October 29t, 2006 in Brazzaville, Congo.
Eight teams namely the defending champions Nigeria, the Host Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Zambia and the Gambia would be lining up for the most awaited draw of the 15th edition of the African Youth Championship on Sunday.
According to a circular from CAF, the Chairman of CAF Youth Championship organising Committee Mr. Slim Aloulou would attend the draw.
The circular revealed that representative of the qualified teams would also attend the draw.
The tournament, which would be held from the 20th January to the 5th February 2007, is expected to be played on two venues namely Brazzaville and Pointe Noire.
It could be noted that the African Youth Championship started in 1978.
