DoSH condemns illegal water bagging

Thursday, November 16, 2006
The Department of State for Health and Social Welfare (DoSH), has condemned illegal bagging of water by "unscrupulous people" in their residences.

According to a press release from DoSH, those involved in this illegal activity are not medically screened and certificated. DoSH then added: "This illegal bagging in an unhygenic environment is done by unscreened persons and could cause the spread of water-borne diseases like cholera, typhoid fever, etc - which are very deadly diseases."

DoSH then slammed the activity as deceptive, saying "it is done in such a way (we are told) as if from a legally certified plant with all its modern machinery. This constitutes deception and predisposes conditions that may be injurious to health." The Department affirmed that the activity contravenes the Public Health Act Cap.40:03 Volumes (5), Laws of The Gambia.

As a result, DoSH warned that anybody caught in the illegal bagging of water will be dealt with accordingly.
It then reminded the general public about its duty to provide information on any illegal bagging of water to the DoSH, by contacting any of the following telephone numbers:
9914535/ 9902353/9921305/ 4227300/4225510.
"The Department of State for Health and Social Welfare solicits the co-operation of all and sundry in making The Gambia a communicable-disease free country," it concluded.
