Pa Momodou Jallow, The Gambia High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has been appointed as the new Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
According to information reaching the Daily Observer, Mr Jallow took over office yesterday from Momodou Hydara, his Deputy who was over seeing the post following the removal of his predecessor, Mr Harry Sambou a week ago.
Mr Jallow, a career intelligence officer was the first Director of the then National Security Service (NSS) when it was formed by the PPP regime. He also served as Commissioner to the North Bank Region in the First Republic.
Following the change of government in 1994, Mr Jallow served as the Gambia’s Ambassador to the United Nations until his recall in the late 90’s. He was then appointed as Permanent Secretary at the Department of State for Defence and later moved to the Department of State for the Interior where he served until the expiry of his contract.
In 2002, he was again appointed as Gambia High Commissioner to The Federal Republic of Nigeria the position he held until his new appointment.
A NIA insider described Mr Jallow as competent and matured for the post. He has all the potentials to deliver as expected of him,” he revealed.
