Monday, November 27, 2006
The Point have been reliably informed that Capt. Ma Lamin Jarju of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) has been appointed Deputy Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency with effect from Wednesday, 23rd November, 2006.

Capt. Jarju was a member of the court martial panel constituted to try 10 military officers alleged to have been involved in the 21st March 2006 abortive coup.

Capt. Jarju replaces Mr. Momodou Hydara, who briefly served as the acting Director-General following the dismissal of Harry Sambou.

The court martial, which was scheduled to sit yesterday, could not proceed as it lacked the quorum to hear proceedings.

Justice Agim, the Advocate Judge, stated that the court would not sit as they are to swear two new members of the panel.

The hearing was therefore adjourned to 30th November, 2006.
