Seventh Day Advantisit (SDA) School in Jeshwang, recently opened a fully equipped computer lab, sponsored by the South Dartmoor Community College, Devon, UK.
The lab was equipped with 26 computers and an internet cafe, with 10 lap-tops.
Speaking to the Daily Observer, Pastor Emmanuel P Smith, Director General of SDA in The Gambia, expressed gratitude to the sponsors, adding that, it will greatly help the school to achieve its aims and objectives in the provision of quality, affordable and relevant education for the students.
Mr Smith said the internet cafe will be open for public use, after school hours. “The public will have the privilege to use the Internet Cafe, as the school is located in a community. Therefore, the school owes a duty to benefit members of the community,” he said.
Madam Rosa Johnson, former Principal of SDA and Coordinator of the Link Project, commented on the over view with their UK counterparts, saying the project started three years ago. She disclosed that the school has benefited a lot from the programme. She thanked the sponsors for investing in Gambian children and then assured that the equipment will be put into good use.
Prosper Pipim, Principal of SDA, expressed similar remarks. He pointed out that the school intends to establish a stationery, glossary shop and a canteen.
Richard Penhale, Head of Information, Communications and Technology at South Dartmoor Community College, Devon, UK, reciprocated the goodwill of the school authorities and expressed hope that the ‘link programme’ between the two schools will bear fruit.
