Fatou Mass Jobe, a seasoned banker of international repute-turned- entrepreneur has been elected the new President of the Gambia Red Cross Society (GRCS) at a ‘general assembly’ election held in Farafenni over the weekend replacing Dr. Saihou Sabally of Hands on Care.
At the keenly contested election, Madam Jobe who is fondly called FMJ secured 27votes whilst her opponent Mr Omar Dibba, a retired health specialist got 21 votes.
Speaking to this reporter in an interview shortly after the election, the elated Fatou Mass Jobe expressed profound gratitude to the GRCS volunteers for electing her, adding that she will do her utmost to live up to expectation.
She said that her first priority is to consolidate the gains of the outgoing central committee adding that she will spare no effort in moving National Society forward.
According to FMJ she would look into the management system of the Gambia Red Cross Society and to conduct a staff audit with a view to coming up with recommendation and a plan of action. She further stated she would also work relentless to improve image of GRCS, noting that they want t to regain the trust and confidence of the Gambia government, and international donor partners.
“I will empower and support the volunteers as they are driving force behind the success of the National Society” she said.
Meanwhile, about 51 delegates from the length and breadth of the country attended the election, which was described as free, fair and transparent.
