CAG on basic commodity prices

Wednesday, October 3, 2007

As part of efforts to reduce the prices of basic commodities, the Community Assistant Group (CAG), has gone all out to control the trend of inflation.

According to Buba Sarr, Chairman and founder of CAG, their association is doing everything possible to ensure that prices are reduced. "These prompted us to mount a sensitisation camp and find possible solutions to control the high prices of basic commodities.

This phenomenom is affecting everybody whether directly or indirectly", he said. He, however, added that in their investigations, they have found out that some of the butchers use to increase prices of meat from D90,00 per kilo of steak to D110,00; and meat and bone from D75,00 per kilo to D90,00 per kilo, respectively.

"We are urging the general public to support us in our endeavours to track down those unscrupulous elemennts and as such they should report anybody found acting in such precedented manner", he added, noting that the development of a nation lies on the collective responsibility of every patriotic citizen.

Mr Sarr further pointed out that they will continue their struggle to get rid of the unprecendented behavior, which has a negative impact on development.

The aim of CAG, he said, is to make the Gambian market free from inflation.

He added that their campaign has even reached ice- block vendors, many of whom buy ice at D3,00 and sold it at D10,00 which, he said, is very unfair.

Mr Sarr finally implore the cooperation of the general public.
