Gambian referee, Modou Sowe, has been selected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to take a centre stage in the second-leg final of the 2007 CAF Confederation Cup final, scheduled for November 24, 2007 in Tunisia.
The first-leg encounter of the keenly- awaited final between Tunisian giants CSS and Sudanes El Merrikh, is scheduled for November 3, 2007, in Sudan, and this would be officiated by the Zimbabwean referees.
The 44 year-old referee Sowe would be assisted by Lamin Camara and Seedy Manneh, while Senegalese Badara Sene would serve as match commissioner in the November 24 second-leg final in the Northerners city of Tunis.
Modou Sowe, who doubles as President of the Banjul Sports Committee remains one of the most successful referees The Gambia has ever had.
Sowe failed a fitness test twice shortly before the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany, which later forced the world football governing body (FIFA) to drop him from the list of 48 candidates selected for the Germany finals.
However, Sowe went ahead to restore hope and confidence by officiating crucial CAF competitions around the continent.
He was selected as a referee for the 2004 African Cup of Nations in Tunisia, and the 2006 African Cup of Nations in Egypt. The veteran referee was also selected to officiate in the UEFA European Under 17 Championship held in France in 2004.
