Ebrima JT Kujabi, Director of Press and Public Relations, Office of the President, has said that the high number of foreign emissaries who presented their letters of credence to President Jammeh last week is an indication of the fact that The Gambia is friends with the rest of the world.
“It also shows in unequivocal terms, the triumph of Gambian foreign policy”, he said.
Speaking to the Daily Obsever, Mr Kujabi noted that brotherly states from the four corners of the world and the centre, France, Belgium, Mauritania, Guinea Bissau, and Gabon amongst others, have come to renew their friendship, trust and solidarity with our nation.
He said that the Gambia under the dynamic leadership of President Jammeh has opened its arms wide to embrace the world, and the response is indeed great as the plethora of foreign ambassadors and envoys who have passed through the gates of State House last week testifies.
“In many ways, Gambian foreign policy has triumphed. It is pragmatic, humanitarian, pan-african and peaceful. The strong role of The Gambia in peace keeping duties in war zones such as Darfur, East Timor, Sierra Leone, and Ivory Coast is a clear testimony to the peaceful and humanitarian tenet of our foreign policy,” he posited.
In Africa, Kujabi went on, The Gambia continues to shine in its dedication to the pan-Africanist ideals of respect for the dignity of the black man and woman. This, he added, was amply demonstrated in 2006 when we hosted one of the best attended AU summits in living memory with a record attendance of African leaders.
“Also, Gambians came out in large numbers to welcome the guests, thus a clear testimony of her people’s love for the human race,” Mr Kujabi said.
By being friendly with the rest of the world, said Kujabi, The Gambia stands to benefit.
“This,” he said, “is why the high number of foreign emissaries who presented their letters of credence last week should be seen by all Gambians as yet another indication of the dynamism and foresight of our foreign policy under the government of His Excellency, President Jammeh”.
He then said that The Gambia under President Jammeh has a lot to share with her friends due to its unshakable stance on stability and peace, combined with religious and ethnic tolerance; all lessons to countries disturbed by civil strife.
“Although we are not well endowed in natural resources, our country has managed a sound economy where salaries are paid on time. This also offers salutary lessons to all and sundry,” he concluded.
