Reckless driving and public safety

A good road network is essential in the developmental quest of any nation. Good roads facilitate easy communication, the flow and transfer of people, goods and services from one part of the country to the other.

They boost productivity and hence the economy through increased accessibility.
It was for this reason that the present regime went all out to make sure that the country has a good road network.  Today, the country is blessed with a commendable road network.  The state of our roads today are even more remarkable if we compare the roads we have presently to the condition of our roads at the time of the July 22nd takeover.

However, many responsible and law abiding people in the country are beginning to view this achievement with mixed feelings due to the recklessness of some unsavoury individuals.  Many lives have been lost and are lost daily due to reckless driving on our roads.
The sheer degree of recklessness continually and callously manifested on our roads are a cause of urgent concern. Drastic action needs to be taken immediately to ensure that traffic rules are not violated with impunity by motorists.

Most of the accidents on our roads are caused by commercial vehicles, whose drivers are in a perpetual state of rush, arising from the need to raise the required amount of money to hand over to their bosses. This has to stop.
