Dr Patrick Chang, Taiwanese Ambassador to The Gambia, has lined up his Government’s main areas of intervention for this year.
Ambassador Chang made this disclosure last week, at a dinner hosted by his Embassy in appreciation of the support by the Observer Company and the GRTS.
Speaking at the dinner attended by representatives of the two media institutions, Dr Chang said 2007 would witness interventions in the works and re-construction process of the country.
According to him, the Taiwanese Government would be more proactive national reconstruction process of the country, especially in the areas of roads and the erection of streetlights in the urban areas. He said this would improve the livelihood of the people, when it’s done.
He informed the guests about the intervention of Taiwanese Technical Mission in agriculture, education and health. According to him, a lot has been done for the years. However, he maintained that a lot more could be done.
Ambassador Chang described The Gambia/Taiwan relation as cordial and therefore emphasised the need for the media to support such a relationship between the governments and the peoples of the two countries.
He then used the occasion to congratulate President Yahya Jammeh on his on-going treatment of asthma and HIV/Aids patients.
Alhaji Modou Joof, Deputy Director- General of GRTS, thanked Dr Chang and his Embassy for the honour. Mr. Joof expounded on the importance of the media towards building a progressive society.
He finally called on other NGOs and institutions to emulate the Taiwanese Embassy.
