Representatives from Berrending Kambeng Kaffo in Nuimi yesterday called on Dr Patrick Chang, the Taiwanese Ambassador to The Gambia, at his office in Kanifing.
According to the women, the aim of their courtesy call was meant to express their delight and gratitude to him, for the assistance rendered to Kambeng Kaffo Women of Berrending. As a token of appreciation, the women handed over some gifts from their garden to Ambassador Chang.
Presenting the gift, on behalf of the association, Mbinki Sonko, a member of the association commended Ambassador Chang for his support to the women of Berrending. She appealed to Dr Chang to assist them with seedlings and fertilizers, as well as chemicals to fight insects in ensuring a positive yield.
She also appealed to Ambassador Chang to assist the association with a Power Tiller to help them ease their work.
Receiving the visitors at his office, Dr Patrick Chang, the Taiwanese Ambassador to The Gambia expressed delight for receiving Kambeng Kaffo Women of Berrending.
Dr Chang also lauded the women to continue the good work they are doing in their gardens. He emphasised that President Jammeh attached great importance to the development of agriculture and urged the women to continue the good work which, he described, as a response to President Jammeh’s “Back to the land call”.
Ambassador Chang then advised the women not to be using too much pesticide on their vegetables as it may affect the fruits and later the health of human beings. He pledged to help the women on their request in the future.
He also encouraged the women association to focus on the cultivation of potato and onion in order to limit the importation of such vegetables into the country.
At the end of the ceremony, Ambassador Chang presented D3000.00 to the women group.
