Magistrate Babucarr Secka of Kanifing Magistrate Court yesterday gave two weeks ultimatum to Kawsu Ceesay, the Chief Electoral Officer of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), to get himself a legal representation.
Magistrate Babucarr Secka said by the next adjourned date which is scheduled for March 5, he will proceed with his case.
The IEC Chief Electoral Officer was last week arraigned before the court. He was charged with criminal counts of forging the signature of Mr. Ndondi S Njie, the former IEC boss, porporting the approval for the purchase of electoral materials from a Canadian company at the tune of D6M, in December 2005.
When the case was called yesterday, Kawsu Ceesay told the court that he would like the court to give him time to enable him engage the services of a legal representative. The State counsel, M A Umar raised no objection to the application made by Mr. Ceesay, but said the accused should do all he can to get the services of a counsel by the next adjourned date.
Magistrate Babucarr Secka then adjourned the case to March 5, 2007.
