Monday, February 5, 2007
The Darling Scorpions of Gambia will return to action today as they face the Young Chipolopolos of Zambia in the third spot play-off in the 15th edition of the African Youth Championship finals currently underway in the Central African country of Congo Brazzaville. The Gambia who admittedly had the best qualifying record in the championship before a narrow slip to the Flying Eagles of Nigeria,, in the semis, will go into today’s game like any other vital fixture, as according to head coach Peter Bonu Johnson, his side will avidly need the bronze medals for pride.

"We are all aware of the importance of today’s fixture and we are not going to take it lightly," coach Bonu Johnson who earlier expressed his satisfaction over the heroic performance of his side for landing the Canada spot, told Observer Sports yesterday.

He however, admitted the fixture will not be an easy encounter, adding that Zambia is as good as any other side in the championship.

The champion of the Mother Continent will be decided on Saturday, February 3, when the host, Congo, who earlier defeated Zambia in the semi-final, lock horns with the defending champions and three-time champions, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria, at Masamba Demba International Stadium in Brazzaville.

All the four semi finalists-The Gambia, Zambia, Nigeria and Congo, have qualified for the impending FIFA U-20 World Cup scheduled for June 2007 in Canada.
