A Swedish couple, Mr. Gabril Van Heusden and Mrs. Gonnelly Van Erp, recently donated a 40-foot container full of medical items and second hand clothing worth thousands of euros, to the people of Somita in Foni.

The donation was made possible through the help of Lawyer Borry Touray who is said to be a friend to the couple as well as an adopted father to the people of Somita.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Lawyer Borry Touray said: “This is the beginning and there is a lot in the pipeline.”

He urged the people of Somita to be united and be one another’s keeper, while thanking the donors whom he described as “priceless treasure” for the country.

For her part, the National Assembly member for the area, Hon. Bintanding Jarjue, thanked the donors for the gesture and commended Lawyer Borry Touray for his show of patriotism.

“The Gambia is blessed with a leader who is equipped with progressive ideas,” she said, adding that the President needs the support of patriotic Gambians to build the country and achieve a developed nation that would meet the needs and aspirations of the masses of Gambians.

She maintained that if there were better words than thank you, she would have chosen to use those words to show the intense feeling of her gratefulness.

For their part, the people of Somita, as a token of appreciation, gave a piece of land to the couple.
