If you really want to make this surprise special, then find something that your partner would absolutely love to do or go to but would never think you would make it happen. For me personally, I am a soccer fanatic and I would absolutely love to go to the world cup final game (played once every four years) due to be played in Japan in 2002. Planning such a trip would be elaborate at the best of times, let alone as a surprise! When looking for a place to go, delve a little into your partner's past and present. If they have a favorite band, are they touring anywhere at the time you want to leave? If they like a particular sport, maybe ice skating, baseball, tennis, etc. find out where they are being played and at what level. Do some research if it is something you are not familiar with to find the perfect place to go. How elaborate you are in the surprise is really up to you… and your budget of course.

Making The Arrangements

The next step is to make everything happen. Firstly, find out if your partner is free to go away on those days. This could be a little tricky, as you have to be careful not to give the game away. Once you are sure they are free, you have to make sure it stays that way. The next step is to make the travel arrangements. If you are going out of the country, make sure you know the visa requirements for the country you are traveling to and also that your partner has a current valid passport. When buying the tickets, make sure you can have them sent to an address where your partner does not, or cannot, check the mail. If it is an expensive trip, you may have to plan your finances for some time in advance so that you can pay for it without your partner knowing about it.

The Element Of Surprise

The next stage is to decide how and when you are going to tell your love of your plans. Going back to my world cup soccer game, I would love to be surprised at the latest possible moment. I know that for me the two weeks leading up to the game are always incredibly exciting as the various teams fight it out in the playoffs to win the right to play. If my love came in a couple of days before the game with packed bags and a car waiting and just took me away without telling me where we were going, I would be in absolute heaven.

Whatever you do, I am sure your partner is going to love it, especially if it is something they have wanted to do for a long time and just never had the time or opportunity.
