Dr Ancha Jagne Ceesay, a Gambian philanthropist based in the UK, has donated office equipment and other valuable items worth of £2,000 to the National Union of Disable Youths (NUDY).
The donated items comprised a photocopying machine, two single beds and mattresses, shoes, clothing, among others.
Speaking at the occasion, Ebrima Dibassey, President of NUDY, said the physically challenged are among the most vulnerable in the poor communities. According to him, this group of people faces tremendous difficulties in life.
He said it was in view of this that NUDY was formed addressed the challenges and many gaps that impede the participation of disables in the community.
Mr. Dibassey then commended Dr Jagne-Ceesay, for being generous to his organisation for the past years. He said the donation was a contribution towards the well being of members of NUDY and the development of The Gambia.
For her part, Dr Ancha Jagne-Ceesay, who is also the Vice Chairman of Disability Hackney (HDH) and Coordinator of the Hackney African Carribean Disability (HACDA), recalled that she was approached by Pa Modou Faal, a journalist at the Point newspaper, to help and develop NUDY. She observed that there is a need assist youth, especially disables. She added that such a help is crucial in helping them realise their dreams and full potentials.
Dr Jagne stressed that the disabled persons have a role to play in nation building and then challenged them to be innovative and creative.
