Top Class - GSSS Holds 48th graduation ceremony

Gambia Senior Secondary School (GSSS), on Thursday held its 48th graduation ceremony for 563 students at a ceremony held at the school hall.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Mr Lamin Jaiteh, Principal of the School said GSSS is a co-educational institute with a total of 1500 students. He said the school has a well committed staff of 48, out of which 33 are university graduates, 8 HTC and 7 are HND, City and Guilds and PTC holders.

Principal Jaiteh said man as a social being can only live in society with a discipline mind, guided by feelings of love, to serve as the solid foundation of discipline.He added that fear does not crush evil as it only subsides it for a time, but love is the only means by which the bad can be converted into good and wrong into right.

“Living is a co-operative process and social adjustment, that is, the ability to understand, co-operate with and get along with others, to resist pressure, discover the power of the minority, to disagree without being rude or violent and to prescribe rules and abide by them are virtues that we at GSSS had been striving hard to inculcate into our students,” he said.

For his part Mr Charles G Betz, Vice-Principal of GSSS advised the students to take advantage of the world full of opportunities and challenges to enhance their status and avoid drugs. “I admonish you to take the opportunities at your door steps and pursue them with vigour and vitality. To succeed, make good use of your time and in doing so you must remember that time waits for no man, hold fast on to what is good for you,” he said.

For her part,Mam Kumba Sanneh of MRC, also advised the students to get prepared to be able to face challenges that may come on their way. “You should never give up and you need to decide what you want and go for it, do not fear failure,as it could be the beginning of success,” she said.

Other speakers included Mr Baba Fatajo of NAWEC, who spoke on the topic ‘Patience and determination,’ Alhagi M Senghore, second Vice-Principal of GSSS gave the closing remarks and Omar Drammeh, the head boy delivered the vote of thanks.
