Two of the three brothers that assailed NAWEC staff on due execution of their duties have embraced the warmth of justice.
Yusupha Jammeh and Siaka Jammeh were arrested by the police in Tallinding this month when a report was received that the brothers have assaulted a team of NAWEC staff that were installing a meter in the compound of one Aja Jarra Jammeh.
The duo were recently awarded various penalties when they admitted responsibility for assaulting the contingent of NAWEC staff on 17 April 2007.
One of the brothers, (name withheld), was considered by magistrate Amina Saho-Ceesay as too young to be tried by a magistrates’ court. Against that backdrop, the magistrate ruled that the accused be tried by a juvenile court over his alleged role in the attack on staff of the country’s electricity and water company. He was however granted bail in the sum of D5000 with a Gambian, who must fulfill other bail conditions, as surety.
Meanwhile, Yusupha and Siaka were each sentenced to pay a fine of D2000 and were also ordered to compensate NAWEC with a sum of D2500.
Failure of this may mean, they would go to jail for 18 months.
