30 coaches line-up for FIFA-Olympic course

Thirty local football coaches from the league clubs and regions will converge at the GFA Centre for Excellence at Yundum on Monday, May 14, for a two-week long FIFA and Olympic Solidarity intermediate football coaching course, press release from the GFA Secretariat has revealed.

The training seminar which is aimed at improving the standard of coaching in the country will be organised by the Gambia Football Association, in collaboration with the National Olympic Committee.
Speaking to Observer Sports yesterday, the Course Coordinator and Education Officer at the Gambia Football Association, Mr. Abdou Salaam Jammeh, said the keenly awaited course will commence from Monday May 14 to May 25 at the GFA Centre for Excellence, situated at Yundum.

Dilating on the contents of the course, Jammeh said: “The course will cover principles of coaching, development of football techniques and skills, criteria for age group training, physical preparation of young players, as well as basic tactics and strategies of the world’s most popular sports.”

Abdou Salaam Jammeh said the course will be directed by a seasoned FIFA Technical Coaching Instructors, Mr. Detlev Bruggemann, who is expected to arrive in the country on Saturday, May 12. During the course, Jammeh added, the participants will also visit the SOS Children’s Village at Bakoteh, as part of cementing long- standing relations between FIFA and SOS Villages around the globe.

“FIFA and Olympic Solidarity attached great importance to the training and technical development of referees, coaches, sport medicine and football administrators and this two-week training programme confirmed this commitment,” Salaam said.

The President of the Gambia Football Association, Mr. Seedy Kinteh, will be among scores of sports pundit who will grace Monday’s opening ceremony with their presence.
