Gambia Gets AIPS Affiliation

It was another great moment for Gambia Sports Journalists on Thursday May 17th, 2007 with the official affiliation of the Gambia Sports Journalists Association to the International Sports Press Association better known as AIPS.

The most awaited news was achieved by the two man delegation comprising of the President and Secretary General of the Gambia Sports Journalists Association, Namory Trawally and Korka Jallow, who are currently attending the 70th Anniversary of AIPS in the historical town of Bregenz in Austria.

Speaking at the most ever attended congress of AIPS, the President of the International Sports Press Association, Giona Merlo said that the Gambia Sports Journalists Association has fulfilled all the necessary conditions and status of the International body and being the case the Association have the right to be a full fledge member of the International body:

Mr. Merlo added that in March this year the Gambia Sports Journalists Association applied for membership to the World body and in return they sent them all the necessary conditions to be a member:

"Am proud to report to them all the necessary documents and information were sent to us and we are satisfied with it," he revealed.

Mr. Merlo’s request was accepted by the 352 delegates from the 112 countries present in the congress:

The affiliation would give the Gambia Sports Journalism another dimension as its members would be exposed to the realities of Sports Journalism from the World.

Meanwhile other countries like Zambia and Oman also were given affiliation.
