Christian Council to Observe Global Day of Prayer on Sunday

Saturday, May 26, 2007

The Gambia Christian Council (GCC) will on Sunday celebrate the Global Day of Prayer at the Glory Baptist Church in Old Jeshwang.

The occasion will bring together Christians from across the country to celebrate the birth of the church on Pentecost Day in prayer and thanksgiving.

Pastor Chinedum Meribole, the coordinator of the programme, said they were going to pray for the world to experience the peace and refreshment God gives to the world and for the church to be strengthened as an agent of transformation to all peoples.

Fr. Edu Gomez, the man in charge of Interfaith Interchurch at the GCC, said the Global Day of Prayer emanated from South Africa and has spread all over the world. "This is the third time The Gambia is participating in this exercise," he said, adding: "It is for ten days but we have to celebrate it on Pentecost Day only."

According to Pastor Meribole, the celebration will take place on Sunday, 27 May 2007, when Pentecost Day will be observed. It will commence at 5pm prompt.

"We shall be joining millions of Christians worldwide to pray for the Church and the world," he remarked.
