Farato Imam’s Trial Suffers Another Setback

Wednesday, May 30, 2007

The trial involving the Imam of Farato has suffered yet another setback when it was adjourned for the fourth time in a row thanks to the absence of the defense counsels.

A certain Kemo Saho is under trial at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court for violently assaulting the Farato Imam with a cutlass thereby causing him actual bodily harm and Kemo is at present remanded in custody at the state central prison in Banjul, pending the outcome of his case.

Meanwhile, the case could not proceed when it recently resumed because defense counsels Borry Touray and Edu Gomez were not in court.

The prosecutor, Cpl. 439 Badjie, was a frustrated man when the case was adjourned for the fourth time in a row. He pointed out that something definitely must be done about the issue since he was travelling from Bundung to Brikama purposely for this trial only to realise that the defense counsels weren’t in court.

But according to magistrate Mbai, Edu Gomez has written to the court to express his inability to attend the court proceeding though he was yet to know why Borry Touray wasn’t in.

The case was adjourned to 4 June and Kemo returned to Mile II.
