The Secretary of State for Local Government and Lands on Tuesday furnished the National Assembly with the revenue collected by each of the seven Local Government Authorities in The Gambia from 2004 to date.

Responding to a question by Hon. Sidia Jatta as to the revenue collected by each of the seven Local Government Authorities and a breakdown of the expenditure incurred by each Local Government Authority from 2004, the Local Government and Lands Secy, Ismaila Sambou, disclosed that Mansa Konko Area Council collected D4,249,542.43 bututs in 2004; D4,508,182.69 in 2005; D4,766,822.95 in 2006 and D1,673,573.07 in 2007.

He then gave the corresponding rundown of the expenditure for the same period as follows: D4,249,543.09, D4,508,182.69, D4,766,822.95 and D1,673,573.07 respectively.

"The Kanifing Municipality as per period mentioned," Secy Sambou said, "stands as follows: In 2004, D41,320,349.34, in 2005 D43,439,828.08, in 2006 D60,843,786.07 and that of the first quarter of 2007 stands at D18,502, 709.24."

According to the breakdown of expenditures for the Kanifing Municipal Council, the capital expenditure stands at D9, 982,482.10, D8, 192, 748:25, D13,010,132.82 and 482, 889.58 respectively.

Secy Sambou further revealed that in the years 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 the Kerewan Area Council collected successive revenue of D5, 368,896.00, D6, 188,466.00, D6, 429, 576.00 and D2, 059, 646.00.

The breakdown of the expenditure however shows that the council incurred an expenditure amounting to D5,339,270.00 in 2004, D6,161,742.00 in 2005, D6,407,747.00 in 2006 and D2, 048, and 345.00 in 2007.

On the revenues collected by the Brikama Area Council for the years under review, Mr Sambou stated that the council collected D8,617,435.00 in 2004, D16,844,466.00 in 2005, D14,609,617.00 in 2006 and D6,142,056,00 in 2007 while the expenditures stand at D7,670,764.00, D16, 035, 563.00, D14,030,507.00 and D6,129,056.00 respectively.

On the revenues of the Banjul City Council, Secy Sambou said that in 2004 the council collected D25,910,771.00, D33,863,268.00 in 2005, D34,797,003.00 in 2006 and an amount of D8, 736,998.27 in 2007 whereas the respective expenditures for the years in question are D14,433,771.00, D18,926,268.00 in 2005, D20,022,003.00 in 2006 and D5,693,129.7 in 2007.

On Basse Area Council, the Secretary of State gave the revenue figures collected from 2004 to 2006, which are D4,522,053.27, D5,091,250.25, D4,529,079.01 respectively while the expenditures stand thus: D949,625.00, D1,348,312.00, D975,517.20 respectively.

Secy Sambou further disclosed that the Janjangbureh Area Council collected D2,400, 727.00 in 2004, D3,173,024.00 in 2005, D2,973,937.00 in 2006 and D717,839.00 in 2007. The expenditures stand as follows: D2,135,625.00, D2,803,843, D2,917,193 and D706, 623.00 respectively.

Finally, Secy Sambou stated that Kuntaur Area council collected D2,025,523 in 2004, D1,775,018 in 2005, D1, 963,923 and D522,804.

"The expenditures stands as follows: D1,701,738 in 2004, D1,575,450 in 2005, D1,570,599 and D520,454 in 2007," he concluded.
