25 women trained on TBA

At least twenty-five women from three administrative regions in The Gambia on Thursday June 14th completed a six-week intensive training course on traditional birth attendance.

The closing ceremony was presided over by Dr Mariatou Jallow, Director of Medical Health Services. 

In his remarks, Professor Omar Jah, President of the foundation thanked the participants and all the invitees for honouring the invitation to grace the closing ceremony.  Dr Jah dwelled on the objective of the foundation, which is mainly to continue promoting the health awareness of the community leaders and also to strengthen the capacity of the informal health personnel at the grassroot level.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Alieu Momar Njie, acting Mayor, Kanifing Municipal Council, commended the Jah Foundation for spareheading the initiative. He added that President Jammeh has brought health facilities to the doorstep of every Gambian.  Mayor Njie went further to give assurances of his municipality’s readiness to support the Jah foundation as far as health is concerned.

In her closing statement, Dr Mariatou Jallow Director of the Medical and Health Services commended the Jah Foundation for what she described as a good move.  She posited that health service delivery is of paramount importance.  Dr Jallow expressed hope that the participants will execute the six-week training effectively in their respective areas.

The training was organised by Sheikh Abdullah Jah Charitable Foundation (SAJCF) and was funded by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
