Police Express Concern over Fatal Accidents

Wednesday, June 20, 2007

The Gambia Police Force has issued a press release in response to what it viewed as an increase in the number of fatal accidents in recent times. The release went on to convey GPF’s concern over the phenomenon, urging drivers and vehicle owners to exercise sufficient caution while driving on the roads, and to secure proper documentation for their vehicles as, the release noted, doing otherwise tantamounts to breaking the law. The following is an excerpt from the release:

"The office of the Inspector-General of Police has noticed with great concern and dismay the recent spate of fatal accidents in the country.

"As a result of this development, drivers are urged to drive carefully and diligently to avoid accidents.

"Equally vehicle owners are hereby advised to license their vehicles immediately prior to testing on the roads. Those concerned are reminded that it is a traffic offence to drive a vehicle under any condition without a valid vehicle licence."

The press release concluded by calling on the public to heed the advice or risk incurring "the full force of the law."
