GS Aviation Takes Over GIA

Tuesday, June 5, 2007

According to unimpeachable sources from official circles, the management of Gambia International Airlines (GIA) has been contracted to GS Aviation, an experienced European airline operator.

Our sources added that the Gambia government, as part of its long-term divestiture programme of Public Enterprises, has contracted the management of GIA for an initial period of five years with effect from 1st June 2007.

As with suchlike takeovers, the invariable consequence is partly seen in redundancies or some other hostile reversal of the status quo. But our sources say that this is an unlikely scenario as GIA is viable and has been performing reasonably well enough to merit an improvement, rather than deterioration, in its situation.
