MRC Case Takes Dramatic Twist

Monday, July 30, 2007

The MRC Workers’ Union case has taken a dramatic twist when the members of the union impressed on their lawyers to withdraw their legal representations for two of their former colleagues.

The two ex-MRC staff, Modou Jarju and Alieu Faal, have instituted a law suit against MRC for ‘wrongfully’ terminating their services in contravention of the Labour Act. Jarju, the former vice president of MRC Workers Union and Alieu Faal are claiming restitution for damages, interest rate of 25% per annum on any amount due, costs and others.

But their lawyers, Amie Bensouda, Borry Touray and Haddy Dandeh Njie, last week informed the two that they’ve been asked by the MRC Workers’ Union to withdraw their representations for them.

However, Mr. Jarju has vowed to remain unfazed by the development. He pointed out that he was poised to pursue the matter to the last even without any legal representation.

The case would resume in November for mention.
