As FA Cup Reaches Semis

The 2007 Gambia Football Association (GFA) national league title winners, Real De Banjul, are eyeing for the double following their historical 2-1 victory over archrivals, Wallidan on Saturday.

In a well contested quarter final game played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, Real De Banjul came behind to upset their long time rivals, Wallidan FC.
Wallidan first took the lead in the 20th minute through Momodou Lamin Sillah, who capitalised from a big blunder from Goalkeeper, Alhagie Abdulie Jobe alias Toldo.

The 2007 champions fought very hard but could not level the scores up to the end of the first.

Real De Banjul came out from the dressing room with more positive approaches of the game and their efforts were rewarded in the 60th minutes with an equalising goal netted by Ebou Bojang on a powerful header.
The turning point of the derby occurred in the 76th minute when Wallidan defender, Kabba Langley netted an own goal from a powerful cross of Ebou Bojang.

In the other quarterfinal game on Saturday, GPA also advanced to the semi-finals after beating Steve Biko 2-1 at the Serekunda West Mini Stadium.

The Gambia U-20 sticker Pa Modou Jagne opened the scores in the 26th minute for GPA before Haji Tunkara netted the second in the 32nd minute.
Steve Biko pulled one in the 53rd minute through Alagie Bah.

In Sunday’s quarter finals the Cup holders, Hawks FC defeated Armed Forces 2-0.
Edward Sarr and Ousman Jatta netted Hawks goals in the 44th and 61st minute respectively.  Armed Forces’ Muhammed Loum was sent off in the 72nd minute.
In the last quarter final game, the only Second Division outfit in the last eight, Kaira Silo, were humiliated 3-0 by Bakau United at the Serrekunda East Mini-Stadium.

Meanwhile Real De Banjul will now face GPA in the first semi final on Friday August 3rd, 2007 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

The second semi final is slated for Sunday August 5th, 2007 between Bakau United and Hawks at the Independence Stadium.

The Grand Final of the 2007 Gamtel Sponsored FA Cup is set for Sunday August 12th, 2007 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
