A weeklong Olympic Solidarity Sports administration course, organized by the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC), is currently underway at the conference room of the Olympic House in Bakau.
Presidents and Secretary-Generals of divisional and zonal sports committees and some Sports Journalists attended the course, which kicked off on Monday July 2nd, 2007.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, George F. Gomez, the Executive Director of GNOC said that this course is the first of its kind to be held at the newly constructed Olympic House.
Dilating on the purpose of the course, Mr. Gomez noted that it aims at training divisional and zonal representatives on sports management.
He urged the participants to take the course seriously so that the knowledge they would be gaining from it could be properly disseminated to the youth.
Also addressing the participants, Mr. Fred Lloyd Evans, pointed out that the course has been organized to enable participants develop sports at the grassroots level.
Tony Njie, one of the course directors, advised participants to be more focused during the weeklong training and in turn educates the young ones for the benefit of sports development.
The Director of Youth and Sports, Alhagie Sait Mbye, pointed out that the training has been designed to have a good impact on the development of sports in the country, and that participants should therefore utilize the programme as optimally as possible.
The course is expected to end on Friday July 6th, 2007.
