One Month Course for 150 Orphans

Ummul Qura Foundation recently began a one-month Islamic Studies course for 150 orphans.

The course, funded by the Qatar-based Sheikh Eid Bin Muhammed Al-Thani charity, would run from 28 July through to August 26, 2007 and is part of the foundation’s activities of supporting orphans amongst others.

Speaking at a ceremony recently organized to declare the course open, the President of Ummul Qura Foundation, Alieu Mustapha Cham, noted the significance of the one-month course, saying it would expose participants to such areas as Quran, Hadith and Tawhid.

He expressed his organization’s resolve to contribute towards socio-economic development of the country.

Mr. Cham disclosed that D827,842.14 is already earmarked for 200 orphans in the country.

Other speakers on the occasion include Ebrima Hassan Cham of Supreme Islamic Council, Sheikh Amad Tijan Jonga, the course coordinator and Mr. Ebrima Cham, Director General of GAMWORKS who represented the secretary of state for health and social welfare.
