In light of a press release from the Supreme Islamic Council of The Gambia and also based on official calendars, the holy month of Ramadan is expected to commence on Thursday September 13th, 2007, depending on the sighting of the moon.

According to the release, the SIC have indicated that following due consultations with Muslim Religious Authorities both locally and internationally, the 15th August 2007, has unanimously been agreed as the 1st day of Shaban in The Gambia and Senegal. The SIC therefore solicits the support of the entire Muslim community in The Gambia, particularly Muslim Religious leaders, to enable it facilitate the Quranic and Prophetic, for the smooth beginning and ending of the Holy Month. The SIC wishes to seize the opportunity to congratulate all Muslims, and to pray that all enjoy stability, peace and development.
