A five-day forum on budgetary tracking ended on Friday at the Paradise Suites Hotel Conference Centre.
The workshop, funded by Global Campaign for Education, was organized by Education for All Campaign Network (EFANET) in conjunction with Africa Network Campaign on Education For All (ANCEFA).
In her remarks at the opening ceremony of the workshop, the Chairperson of Education for All (EFA), Madam Adelaide Sosseh, said the wind of change have started blowing in 2000 and it became a storm that changed education service delivery on world-scale.
“Education was the concern of individual governments but has now become everyone’s business. Storms can be destructive but are good in the sense that they lead to a clean-up exercise afterwards, thus providing the opportunity for a concerted and joint effort in the cleansing process,” she added.
She explained that the five-day workshop was expected to be charged with activity of information sharing and acquisition of knowledge and skills.
Mrs. Felicia Onibon of ANCEFA, on her part, pointed out that the African continent cannot afford to look the other way when resources meant for the development of children are corruptly diverted for things other than educational development.
Other speakers on the occasion include the permanent secretary at the department of state for education, Mr. Babucarr Boye, who pointed out that year 2000 ushered in a landmark development for the education sector as it did not only herald the new millennium but also saw significant developments that ‘radically’ changed the delivery of education services.
