20 new volunteers for the Voluntary Service Overseas,VSO arrived in the country on August 23, 2007 to be involved in development work in the fields of education and rural development.
According to a release issued by the organisation, these volunteers will undergo a five-week language and cultural induction before taking up various posts in the administrative regions of the country. Their arrival brings the total number of VSO volunteers in country to 33. Another group of 7 volunteers are expected soon, which will bring the number of VSO volunteers in the country to 40.
Amongst the 20 new arrivals, the release went on, there are 3 Filipinos, 9 British, 2 Irish, 3 Dutch, 1 Zambian and 2 American nationales. These new volunteers will join the existing volunteers and work in the following programmes: Education, Rural Livelihoods and Disability with VSO’s Gambian partners. They are expected to contribute to the VSO ideal of Sharing Skills and Changing Lives.
