Reveals PRO Njaimeh Mboge
The Theatre Arts Music Association (TAMA) of the University of The Gambia (UTG) is currently working out modalities to stage a pulsating play entitled the ‘Silver Castle’.
The intriguing play is based on James Cliff’s much-acclaimed novel – ‘Silver Castle’.
According to their Public Relations Officer, Njaimeh Mboge, TAMA will stage the said play by the end of the year, adding that the venue for the eagerly -awaited event is yet to be decided.
Buttressing on the play, Ms Mboge elucidated that ‘Silver Castle’ depicts the film industry in faraway India.
“It explains how the industry which portrays a great hope for must people in India, ends up being an avenue for the PHD syndrome.
Because the film industry in The Gambia is blossoming and considering its similarity with that of India we deem it apt to stage it so as to highlight the issues of poverty and tourism which makes a lot of sense in The Gambian context, as it looks at how poverty is created and perpetuated .
It also looks at tourism holistically as a vice and as a blessing which we all know is pertinent to the Gambia as tourism is the goose that lays the golden egg for the country”.
She said that the play is a follow-up to Jalika and Yusupha, which is based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
