Following the appointment of Alhagie Mass Axi Gye, former second vice president of GFA, as Secretary of State for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs, the Gambia Football Association would be appointing some body to fill the vacant position.
The current position of the second vice president is vacant, which gives all powers to the executive committee to appoint some body in the acting capacity.
According to Section 3 (Powers of the Executive Committee) sub-section B (III) of the Gambia Football Association 2001 Constitution states: in the event of vacancy occurring the term of office of the Executive, the committee shall have the power to co-opt a person to fill the vacancy in an acting capacity until such time an extraordinary general meeting is convened to elect a replacement.
Based on this section of the constitution, the current Executive committee of GFA headed by Seedy MB Kinteh has the power to co-opt some body to replace Alhagie Mass Axi Gye.
This was not the first time such thing happened in the GFA.
It could be recalled that in 2004, Momodou Sidibeh was co-opted as Acting second vice President of GFA when Modou Musa, the then first vice President, tendered his resignation.
Mr Sidibeh held the position until the extraordinary congress organised in December 2004 in which Alhagie Gabbi Sosseh, the then GFA President was impeached and replaced by Ahagie Omar Sey.
