The Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS) has started broadcasting live English Premier League games. The national television station, will also rebroadcast on Mondays, the highlights of all the weekend actions in the most followed and watched football league in The Gambia and Africa as a whole.
Relaying live Premiership matches is one of the most important success stories of GRTS, under the dynamic stewardship of Alhagi Momodou Sanyang, who has succeeded in changing the nation’s only television station from analogue to a standard digital television station.
When the news reached town, sports enthusiasts who have been paying exorbitant amounts to the local video clubs to watch premiership games, were seen jubilating.
“We should thank GRTS for a job well done. Before, one needed a DSTV antenna in other to access premiership matches and not all can afford that,” a chronic premier league follower told the Daily Observer.
“If someone in the farthest part of the country can today tune to the GRTS and watch live premiership matches, then the management of the television station should be commended for this brilliant move,” he said.
Since his appointment to position of Director General at GRTS, Alhaji Momodou Sanyang has worked tirelessly to improve standards. He is an expert in running documentaries on significant national events.
He was in fact the lead organiser of the last Kanilai International Cultural Festival.
