In an apparent move to revitalize the game of handball in the country, Kebba O Jobe, President of the Gambia Handball Association (GHA) has revealed his committee’s intention to stage a national handball league which is expected to kick off later this year.
The GHA Boss lamented that since his election to office last year, the committee has been busy preparing their annual sporting calendar of 2008 activities pointing out that among their top priorities is to start a national league.
“We are expecting 8 to 10 ten teams to participate in this year’s division one league,” he stated.
Jobe added that, “ we intend to produce a national team that will represent the country in the qualifiers of the Confederation of African Handball (CAHB) which is a challenge trophy competed in by national league champions in African zones 2,3,4,5 and 6,”.
He said The Gambia is in a zone alongside Senegal, Mali, Guinea Conakry, Sierra Leone, Mauritania, Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde.
He seized the opportunity to call on all Handball Referee’s, Coaches and players to come forward and bring back the glory days of handball in the country.
