Young Journalists Call for Launching Support

The president of the newly formed Young Journalists’ Association of The Gambia (YJAG) Mr. Nfamara Jawneh has called on business, individuals, and civil society organizations in the country to support their association to make their forthcoming official launching slated for January 31st 2008 a success.

Mr. Jawneh made this appeal yesterday in an interview with this reporter.
 
According to him, investing in journalists especially the young would enhance their work.  “We want to give out standard output to our readers, audience and viewers and the only way to attain that is through capacity building. Training is a perquisite for development.”  He said.

Mr. Jawneh further said that among the objectives of his association it is to provide capacity building for young media practitioners in the country and promote their general welfare.  “ We are therefore appealing to all institutions and individuals who have pledged to support our launching to come forward and help fulfill their promise and call on others to also emulate those who have already made theirs. Donors of this event and any other event of this association would never regret for partnering with us. ” He assured. Adding that they would in turn give their donors the publicity the need.

YJAG leader further revealed that the official launching of the association would be graced by the Honorable Secretary of State for Information, Communication and Technology, Mrs. Nenneh Macdoull Gaye among several degiteries including diplomats. With YJAG a new era has emerged in the media history of The Gambia said Mr. Jawneh.

Meanwhile, the members of the association and all those who wish to register are hereby informed that there would be a general meeting on Friday at 10am at the Point Newspaper’s offices along Garba Jahumpa Road in Bakau.

All are urged to attend and on time as important matters concerning the launching would be discussed.
