Following negotiations between the Department of State for Communication, Information and Technology and the management of Radio France International (RFI), the radio is now back on the air, The Point can confirm.
Information reaching The Point has it that the radio, whose signals somehow could not be received in the country since Tuesday, 15th January 2008, resumed reaching Gambian listeners yesterday.
According to a press release from the Department of State for Communications, Information and Technology DoSCIT), the sanction of Radio France International (RFI) signals in The Gambia has absolutely nothing to do with the press release recently issued by the said department.
It could be recalled that RFI reportedly carried a story alleging that some terrorists who had allegedly murdered four French nationals in Mauritania escaped to The Gambia. The report has since been repudiated by the DOoCIT as incorrect, requesting for a fitting correction.
The Department of State maintained that Gambia Radio and Television Services had a contractual agreement with RFI and that this ended 22nd December 2007.
