Jahaly Pacharr Farmers Trained on Land Development

Over seventy farmers in Jahaly Pacharr in Central River Region (CRR) South were recently trained on land preparation, group management and water control.

The two-day training, according to Mr. Mbemba Dahaba, the Regional Agricultural Co-ordinator is supported by the Farmer Managed Rice Irrigation Project (FMRIP) in partnership with the National Agricultural Development Agency (NADA) and is aimed at capacitating and enhancing farmers in their various operation areas.

He added that the project is undertaken around four components; specifically, rural credit support, capacity building, land development and project management and is being implemented in Niamina East and Lower Fulladu West districts in CRR South.

Mr. Dahaba on the other hand called on the participants to put into practice the knowledge gained from this training and urged them to transmit the know-how to those not lucky to be part of the training.

For his part, Mr. Falalo Touray, the Programme Co-ordinator affirmed that the objective of the training is to enhance the capacity of the farmers in managerial skills for proper management of their farming equipment and fields so as to increase yields and sustainability of the equipment.

In conclusion, Mr Touray inspired the farmers to be better prepared to increase productivity.

Essa Drammeh, the representative of FMRIP maintained that the project’s goal is to enhance food security, poverty reduction and lessen rice importation. He equally urged the farmers to get ready for the challenges that lie ahead for the sustainability of the project.
