Wednesday, October 29, 2008

A British national by the name Susan, residing at Sukuta, on 27 October 2008 gave her testimony at the

Bundung Magistrate Court
presided over by Magistrate Kumba Sillah Camara.

Susan PW1 informed the court that on 25th May 2008 at Sukuta, she went out to turn on her generator and then the accused and his accomplice appeared to her.

According to her, the accused pushed her against the wall and asked her how much money she had in her room.

When she tried to answer him, the accused covered her mouth with his hand and began to drag her from the park to the kitchen and finally to the living room.

PW1 further adduced that the accused asked her to give him money, and she told them that it is upstairs. Then one of them ran upstairs, while the other beat her with a weapon looking like an iron.

The accused, she said, went to her room probably searching for money. She added that the one who went upstairs came and then said something in their language. He then cut the cable fan and used it to tie her hands behind her back.

According to her, the accused later struck her with a weapon that made her fall down unconscious.

She said she later regained consciousness at the Sukuta Health Center , from where she was referred to the RVTH. She explained that she spent nine days there.

It could be recalled that the accused Newton Nete is standing trial for allegedly robbing one Susan at Sukuta by beating her with an iron bar, with the intention of snatching her money from her. But he denied the charge.

The case was at that juncture adjourned until 5th November 2008 , for the accused person counsel to cross-examine PW1.
