Peace as the bedrock of a decent soceity

Peace building is a noble task that warrants the support of every peace-loving person. Weapons usage, be they small or large arms, ought to be subjected to some form of restrictions if we are to maintain the level of sanity we envisage in our society.

There wouldn’t be any need to worry about self defense if the environment one lives in is safe, yet it is the responsibility of every member of society to ensure that that safety is guaranteed. This should be the prime message from all peace loving quarters. This is especially paramount in the face of this increasingly chaotic world of ours where the love for power and wealth has become a recipe for unrest.

The global campaign against cluster munitions is a cause that deserve thorough support and, therefore, this week having been declared Global week of Action on Cluster Munitions, is an opportune moment to not only highlight the dangers associated with these weapons but also to sensitize the public about issues related to conflicts and their resultant effects.

It is one thing signing protocols, which is in fact good in that they help bind parties to what they commit themselves, but it is an altogether different thing to ensure that these signed protocols are respected.

It is also important to note that there is so much that we can do to avoid having to control the number of guns, and dealing with the issue of who keeps weapons.
