Thursday, October 30, 2008

The World Health Organisation (WHO), in a bid to improve the health conditions of local communities, last Tuesday, donated two blood bank freezers, valued at US$8000, to the Royal Victoria Teaching (RVTH) and the Sukuta Health Centre. The presentation of the items was held at the RVTH premises in Banjul.

Speaking after the presentation, Dr Mariatou Jallow, the chief medical director at the RVTH, commended the WHO for the initiative.  She seized the opportunity to call on the general public to donate blood to the hospital.

For his part, Dr Thomas Sukwa, WHO country representative, said the gesture was prompted by an appeal made by Dr Malick Samba, former WHO regional director for Africa.

Sally Savage of the Sukuta Health Centre also expressed gratitude to Dr Malick Samba and the WHO.
