Journalist Criminal Appeal Case Today

The criminal appeal case filed by Lamin Fatty, a reporter with the now shutdown Independent Newspaper, is expected to resume today at the Criminal Division of the Banjul High Court.

Journalist Lamin Fatty is seeking to overturn his conviction and sentence by the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court presided over by the sacked Magistrate Buba Jawo some time last year.

He was convicted and sentenced to a fine of D50, 000 in default to serve one year imprisonment for the offence of false publication and broadcasting a charge of which he maintainedinnocent until he was proven guilty by a court of law. He has since paid the fine.
