Assan Njie to Thrill Gambians in UK
Gambians in The United Kingdom will have a romantic feel on The Gambia’s 43rd Independence Day celebration when they come face to face with the Senegalese Mbalax star as he rocks the city of London in little less than a fortnight’s time.
Assan Njie and his top-rated Ngewel band are expected to leave the Senegalese capital, Dakar for the UK where Gambians from Yorkshire to Wiltshire, Middlesex to Sussex are anxiously waiting for a night of excitement with the Senegalese Mbalax maestro in London.
The event is organized by Yaram Art and other Africans and non-Africans resident in the UK are also expected to join in the celebration. Top-flight Gambian artist, Jah Alex, is currently in The UK and will lend a hand to the night of fun and frolicking.
Speaking in a mobile phone interview with Momodou Justice Darboe from his UK base on Wednesday evening, Njok Malick Jeng, CEO of Yaram Art, said the event is part of his outfit’s efforts to make Gambians feel like an integral part of celebrations of a day when their country was liberated from the yoke of colonialism.
“We are organizing the event as part of our modest efforts in bringing Gambians in the UK together. The 16th of February performances of Ngewel band and Jah Alex are all geared towards bringing Gambians on one platform to meet and associate the Gambian way,” added Njok Malick.
According to the highly-spirited long-standing Gambian music and sports promoter, Yaram Art is excited to extend an invitation to all those Gambians and non-Gambians resident in The UK to be part of the night of excitement to hold barely 48 hours when Gambians at home commemorate the Independence Day.
Meanwhile, the UK-based Yaram Art is now fully registered in The Gambia. This will enable the outfit to intensify its activities in promoting Gambian music and sports as well as humanitarian interventions. It wasn’t long ago when Yaram Art, through its Cloth Drive initiative, donated second-hand clothing, stationary, jerseys, among many valuable items, to the needy and deserving in the country.
